1 Peter 4

1 Since Christ suffered in the flesh, arm yourselves too with the same resolve — because whoever has suffered in the flesh has done with sin — ⌘◈◈

2 so as to live out the time that remains in the flesh no longer by human cravings but by the will of God. ◈◈

3 For the time that has gone by is enough to have carried out what the nations want — you who walked in debaucheries, cravings, drunken bouts, carousings, drinking parties, and lawless idolatries. ⌘◈◈

4 At this they are taken aback — that you no longer run along with them into the same wide flood of reckless excess — and they slander you; ⌘◈◈

5 They will render an account to the one who stands ready to judge the living and the dead. ◈◈◈

6 For this is why the good news was proclaimed even to the dead: so that, though judged in the flesh by the standard of men, they might live by the standard of God in the spirit. ⌘◈◈

7 But the end of all things has drawn near; so be clear-headed and sober, for prayers. ◈◈

8 Above all, keep your love for one another at full stretch, because love covers a multitude of sins. ✦◈◈

9 hospitable to one another without grumbling; ◈

10 each one, as he received a gift of grace, serving it to one another as good household managers of God’s variegated grace; ◈◈

11 If anyone speaks — as oracles of God; if anyone serves — as out of the strength God supplies, so that in everything God may be glorified through Jesus Christ, to whom be the glory and the might into the ages of the ages. Amen. ⌘◈◈◈

12 Beloved, do not be taken aback at the fiery ordeal among you, which is coming upon you as a trial, as though something strange were happening to you. ◈◈

13 but insofar as you share in the sufferings of Christ, rejoice, so that also at the unveiling of his glory you may rejoice, exulting. ◈◈◈

14 If you are reviled for the name of Christ, blessed are you, because the Spirit of glory — the Spirit of God — rests upon you. ⌘✦◈◈◈

15 For none of you should suffer as a murderer or a thief or a wrongdoer — or as a meddler in what is not his own; ◈◈

16 But if [he suffers] as a Christian, let him not be put to shame; rather let him glorify God in this name. ◈⌘◈◈

17 For the appointed time has come for the judgment to begin from the house of God; and if it begins first with us, what will the end be for those who disobey the gospel of God? ✦◈◈

18 And if the righteous person is barely being brought safe through, where will the ungodly and sinful one appear? ✦◈

19 So then, let those also who suffer according to God's will commit their lives to a faithful Creator, in the practice of doing good. ⌘◈
